PRODUCT OVERVIEW The Eisenhower 1972 US Dollar Coin Collection commemorates a pivotal year for this iconic series, honoring President Dwight D. Eisenhower and the historic Apollo 11 mission. This collection captures the essence of American mid-century achievement in numismatic form, featuring the distinctive large-size dollar coin minted for circulation. KEY FEATURES The collection features the dual-date 1971-1972 Eisenhower Dollar marking the final year of the Apollo commemorative reverse. It includes both the copper-nickel clad circulation strike and the 40% silver clad uncirculated version minted for collectors. The obverse showcases a portrait of President Eisenhower designed by Frank Gasparro, while the reverse depicts the Apollo 11 mission insignia based on the original design by astronaut Michael Collins. These coins represent the last dollar coins intended for widespread public circulation before the smaller Susan B. Anthony dollar. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Each coin has a diameter of 38.1 millimeters. The standard circulation issue is composed of outer layers of 75% copper and 25% nickel bonded to a pure copper core. The special collector version is struck in a clad composition of 40% silver and 60% copper. All coins bear a reeded edge and were produced at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, with mint marks located above the date on the obverse side.
